History and evolution of SALICO are based in its revolutionary developments and technological innovations along the years, many of which represent nowadays the State of the Art in finishing lines.
SALICO SPA was founded in 1978 by Mr. Giordano Colombo and Mr. Carlo Salvioni near the city of Lecco, 40 km away from Milano. From the very beginning company strategy aimed at developing advanced technological solutions to tackle the very many technical challenges existing on those days.
In 1989, SALICO integrates automation in its production capabilities by starting SALICO AUTOMATION, essential for optimum performance and customer service. All our new mechanical developments were in need of corresponding automation developments, so in many occasions when developing a prototype, the mechanical aspect cannot be conceived without a parallel automation development. With that target in mind, SALICO AUTOMATION was born, to develop and supply the electrical equipment and automation controlling SALICO’s Finishing lines.
In 1997 SALICO became the major shareholder of company FUMAGALLI, a mechanical manufacturing plant with additional engineering capability and located in Barzago, 10 km away from SALICO headquarter. Fumagalli would oversee the portion of market dealing with special projects and applications, as well as the revamping, rebuilding and refurbishing of older equipment either supplied by SALICO Group or other suppliers.
In 2007, SALICO HISPANIA is started as a result of the agreement with Gerbolés family in order to grow internationally and widen the product portfolio. Based in Madrid, it hosts all key personnel from former MECESA company, founded by Mr. Luis Gerbolés Calvo back in 1974 and successfully operating in the finishing lines field. This success was further amplified by its integration in year 2000 within multinational group VAI, one of the world’s leader in equipment for the metals industry worldwide.
Shortly after the start of SALICO HISPANIA; and in order to replicate group structure in Italy, a company dedicated to automation was launched in SPAIN, under the name of SALMEC AUTOMATION. The new company started operations with engineering and electrical equipment manufacturing capabilities in the town of Arganda del Rey, 30 Km Southeast from Madrid.
In 2012, SALICO took over company KCS HERR VOSS UK LTD. This company is located in the West Midlands region in the UK and has a powerful team of mechanical and process engineers, in charge of design and engineering of cleaning lines for both ferrous and non- ferrous materials, medium capacity paint coating lines as well as other processes and applications.
In November 2015 SALICO and US company SES LLC jointly started the company SES SALICO Finishing and Processing based in Alliance, Ohio to supply SALICO range of products in the North American market with the added local capabilities for engineering, manufacture, technical service and spares.
At present, and after forty years of intense history, ownership of companies within SALICO Group is divided in 4 equal parts belonging to families Salvioni, Colombo, Molteni and Gerbolés. Members of the second and even third generations of these family actively work in the various companies of the Group.
