New Slitting line for Can stock production

One of the world leading aluminium producers and Salico have reached an agreement for the supply of a new state of the art slitting line to be installed in one of its rolling plants in America. The line is primarily intended for tab stock, but it will also be prepared to run thinner and fully annealed strip, down to 0.15 mm Ho.

For proper thin gauge handling and processing, the line will be equipped with specific technical solutions such as vacuum roll and tensioning bridle rolls. A particular focus on operator friendly interface results in hands free slitter tooling exchange, automatic separator discs positioning and vacuum transfer of scrap to a remote baller.

Equipment engineering and manufacture will take most of 2021, leaving installation and commissioning for first half of 2022.

Successful commissioning of Automotive Cutting lines at Profilglass

Following the impressive growth path of our all-time customer Profilglass, Salico has recently delivered and started up two very impressive cutting lines for automotive and aerospace application. COVID-19 pandemic did not refrain the project teams of both companies to conclude the project in a very fast, efficient and successful way.

Combi Levelling and Slitting Line

Decoiling, Levelling, Slitting with final Recoiling of edge-trimmed coils or in multi-slit formats, these are the functions featured in the Combi-line designed to process Aluminium coils of the following figures:

  • Coil weight 25 tons in maximum outer diameter 2500 mm.
  • Strip width as large as 2500 mm ranging 0.5 to 5.0 mm in thickness.
  • Maximum Slitting Capacity achieves 35 slits at Line speed 400 m/min.

Strip Levelling is performed by means of a Leveller featuring 6-high Cassette design.

Slitting Shear is provided with Auto Slitting Tooling Changeover carried out in 5 minutes; Slitting Tooling are secured in position by Auto Locking mechanism of Salico design.

Scrap Chopper and relative Scrap Conveyor complete this unit.

Robotized Slitting Tooling Setup is complementary to Auto Slitting Tooling Changeover, featuring the Salico proprietary robotic system.

The Salico Bridle is the perfect complement of the Recoiling area in order to guarantee a totally free from scratches surface of the most sensitive qualities of processed materials. Adjustment of the separator discs is done in a totally automatic way via a robotized Salico system.

Electrical Cubicles, engineered and manufactured by Salico Automation, are fitted into dedicated climatized Containers, provided with office space and pedestrian & maintenance access doors, are installed 5 m high over floor level, thus saving space in the rear of the Line.

PVC Foil Application is provided upstream Slitting Shear and Paper Foil application in the Recoiling area.

Line ends with Exit Coil Turnstile equipped with high-efficiency Circumferential Strapping Facility of Salico design which provides for the maximum run uptime of the Line.

Cut To Length Line

The Line allows cutting Aluminium sheet up to 10 m along from coils of 25 tons in weight, featuring outer diameter 2500 mm and width 2500 mm in thickness range 0.8 to 9.0 mm.

Downstream to Decoiling function an Edge Trimming facility feeds the strip suitably set free from jagged-edges to Levelling Machine.

The Levelling Machine, featuring 6-high Cassette design, is provided with no. 2 Roller Cassettes to perform Levelling of the strip across the entire material thickness range.

Main Machine features are the Automatic Cassette Change, positioning of the upper “cassette” halve along the “X” and “Y” axis, the “localized corrections” incorporated in the lower “cassette” halve and backlash recovering of screws-down into the upper part of the Machine via a dedicated hydraulic circuit of Salico design.

The Salico Rotary Shear, the undisputed leader in the field of Rotary Shears, maximises the performance of the Mega Vacuum Stacker which completes the Line.

Upper PVC Foil and Lower Paper Foil applications are performed upstream Rotary Shear.

Non-stop Stacking of sheets up to maximum length 5000 mm is performed via two Stacking Platforms working alternatively, while Stop Stacking way allows to produce 10000 mm long sheet.

SALICO renews its park of machining tools with the addition of a new milling center at SALICO II in Barzago (LC)

SALICO continues the renewal of its machine tool park with an FPT VERSUS 250 Y6000x Y1500x 2500. The installation of the new milling machine also aims to increase business efficiency through the use of interconnected technologies, improving and enhancing company productivity so as to become part of active in the sector. 4.0.

A strongly desired investment, made precisely in this particular and difficult economic moment, will allow Salico to carry on the project of guarantee high standards of quality and precision.

In detail, the FPT VERSUS 250, installed at our manufacturing plant nº 2 in Barzago, will allow us to achieve the following objectives:

as it perfectly meets the requirements of Industry 4.0:

  • CNC and / or PLC control systems;
  • Interconnection to the company network with remote upload of instructions and software;

  • Implementation of ad hoc software for instrument management and traceability.

 

SALICO finds again success in the promising Aluminium market

An Italian rated Aluminium trader will equip its facility with a Line combining Recoiling of Coil with Levelling and Cut to Length of the strip featuring made-to-measure design engineered by Salico.

Decoiling, Edge Trimming, Leveling, Top PVC and Bottom Foil Application, Recoiling or Cutting To Length of the strip ending with Non-stop Stacker, these are all the functions which can be incredibly found in only 32 m layout of this Line.

The Line, capable to process coil of 12,5 ton featuring incoming strip width 1600 mm in the thickness range 0,4 to 4,0 mm, consist of machines featuring design to minimize the foundation work as a precise requirement of our customer. In Cut to Length mode, maximum sheet length performed via Non-stop Stacking is 4000 mm, while Stop Stacking allow to produce 8000 mm long sheet.

A Line of such a peculiar design has been engineered in synergy with our customer to meet entirely its production supply chain from sourcing the primary material as coils to then supplying these in the market as processed sheets or coils.

  • The Levelling Machine in the Recoiling section of the Line allow the buying of aluminium coils readily available on the market just after rolling mill process without having to wait for the necessary “de-tensioning” process.
  • At the same regard, the Edge Trimming facility is fundamental to remove the rolling milled edges of the strip.

The Levelling Machine, featuring 6-high “cassette” design, allow the extraction of the rollers effortlessly. The upper part of the Levelling Machine features all the possible positioning the upper halve of the “cassette” along the “X” and “Y” axis; in the lower part of the Machine, the lower halve of the “cassette” benefits of no. 7 “localized corrections”. Backlash recovering of screws-down in charge to move the upper part of the Levelling Machine along the “X” and “Y” axis is via hydraulic circuit of Salico proprietary design. The machine is complete with Spraying Liquid Media Circuit for cleaning both the strip and the rollers, this as well of unique Salico design.

Despite the Line is mainly focused about performing in quality, productivity in Cut To Length section is paid attention via high performing Non-stop Stacker: a coil is cut entirely without interruption by benefit of two stacking tables working alternatively; our customer can supply the market with special tailor blank sheet or standard size ones keeping maximum uptime of the Line.

The Salico Rotary Shear, as the undisputed leader of Rotary Shear available in the market, is the perfect complementary machine of the Non-stop Stacker.

Talking about attention to quality, Top PVC and Bottom foil Application are laid out in the Line to allow their application either when Recoiling or Cutting to Length.

The Line is scheduled to be on stream for production by the second quarter of 2021; as flexible to process and supply Aluminium in the market as “de-tensioned” processed coils, special tailor blank or standard size sheet, our customer can reach a large array of final users in different sectors like shipbuilding, household appliances including furniture and kitchens, cycles & motorcycles etc.

With this Line Salico is marking a fundamental step forward in the developing of the Aluminium Coil Service Centers not only in the designing of the Line but also and very importantly in the seeking and tracing of the production supply chain of this emerging reality.

Salmec Automation inaugurates it’s expanded Plant in Arganda del Rey, Spain

Last May works for expansion of Salmec Automation S.L. premises in Arganda del Rey (near Madrid, Spain) were completed. Salmec Automation S.L. is one of the two Salico Group Automation companies.

The expansion Project resulted in doubling both office space and workshop area to assemble electrical cabinets in order to cope up with increasing demand from our customers and the positive growth of group business.

This expansion also involved the addition of several production means in order to continuously improve our services related to Level 1, Level 2, MES, HMI, power control, maintenance, revamps…and also the strengthening of our close collaboration with the leaders in the automation field world wide (Siemens, Rockwell, ABB, Schneider..) which keeps us at the top level of the technology available in the market.

It is worth mentioning the new and very modern Training Room, with direct access to our workshop and that will allow theoretical and practical training of our customer technicians and also the Remote Support Room from which we will trouble shoot and solve issues remotely through safe remote connections, thus minimizing unscheduled down time of our equipment anywhere in the world.

In the production area a new testing area has been added, directly connected with the engineering department, which will improve the hardware and software test procedures. Finally, the workshop has been equipped with new lifting means as well as specific tooling and machinery dedicated to the integration of the electrical cabinets into PCRs (Packaged Control Rooms), fully ready for transportation and installation on site, which is an increasing trend in the industrial automation field.

 

Leading European steel producer relies on Salico technology for its new Slitting Line project.

A leading European steel producer has recently awarded order to Salico for the supply of a Slitting Line capable of processing coil of 35 ton featuring incoming strip width 2000 mm in material thickness range 0,4 to 6,0 mm.

The Line is designed and thought for supplying the todays and the future market of the Automotive industry and applications in general presenting to this end a number of dedicated features like being able to process Steel and Aluminium.

Since Automotive is high demanding about surface quality, “Doctor Blades” are applied in number to keep clean all the rollers in contact with the strip surface; a specific cleaning device is featured at entry of the Line assuring no sort of dirtiness is brought into as the perfect strip conditions are checked over and underneath in a dedicated inspection area equipped with adequate lighting and mirrors.

The line is designed to be efficient in production changes; to this end Auto Slitting Tooling Changeover and Auto Separator Arbours Setup are featured in the Line to guarantee production change is effectively and timely performed. Robotized Slitting Tooling Setup of Salico proprietary design is scheduled to be implemented afterward.

The Salico Bridle Tensioning Unit is the indispensable complement in terms of guaranteeing surface of recoiled coils is free from defects while recoiling is performed 100% Energy Saving thanks to Bridle’s motors act like generators pulled by Recoiler’s motor.

Semi-auto Circumferential Strapping Arm fitted on Exit Coil Turnstile guarantee the Line can be restarted immediately after a batch of slit coils is offload from Recoiler i.e. circumferential strapping is carried out off the Line, not on Recoiler. On the way travelling the slit coils from Recoiler to Exit Coil Turnstile, a weigh-in station is the perfect complement of this Line. Not to leave anything out, the scope of supply include an Oiling Machine of Salico proprietary design and a Coil Tilting Device to overturn slit coils eye-to-wall to eye-to-sky.

The modern conception of Salico designed equipment will allow the Slitting Line can be implemented with other functions throughout the years to come like the needs will be.

Arconic relies on Salico for diversification.

Arconic Tennessee operations has trusted in Salico technology to increase its finishing capabilities for the automotive and general applications markets. For this, two trimming lines, sold under SES SALICO joint venture with significant domestic scope, will be coming operational during 2020.

The highly automated lines include precision leveling, in line high speed scrapping, side trimmer with center cut facility, automatic surface inspection, dry lube application, strip marking and paper interleaving, allowing a high degree of flexibility for a wide range of products and applications.

Commissioning of a “hybrid” cut to length line for the automotive market

During the first quarter of 2020, the new SALICO “hybrid” Cut to Length Line for trapezoids started industrial production at the TATA STEEL WEDNESFIELD PLANT, the largest automotive Service center that TATA STEEL operates in the UK.

The hybrid line is designed to process both carbon steel and aluminium alloys including ultra-high strength steel grades and the products are intended for automotive exposed panels.

The line can cut square sheets, curved cuts, trapezoids, triangles and additionally, has an integrated “multi-blanking” facility utilizing an integrated slitter head that cuts the strip in up to four longitudinal strands that are then cut transversely so that the four blanks arrive simultaneously at the stacker. This feature we believe makes this line unique.

The main features are:

  • A multi-roller leveler with three automatically interchangeable cassettes.
  • A slitting facility with slitter head, turnstile for automatic loading of the tools and robot-operated separators adjusting systems.
  •  A high performance Salico “Tiltronic” rotary shear for cutting trapezoids on the fly with automatic cassette change for the diez.
  • A high efficiency vacuum stacker and evacuation system.

Full automation of the line has been delivered by Salmec, one of the two automation companies within the Salico group, ensuring a well integrated mecha-tronic package, all under the same umbrela.

Commissioning of a New Degreasing and Cleaning Line for Stainless Steel

SALICO has succesfully finished the commissioning of a complete new Degreasing and Cleaning Line in OTELINOX S.A. stainless steel plant in Targoviste, Romania. OTELINOX S.A. was acquired in 1997 by SAMSUNG DEUTSCHLAND GmbH, a branch of the SAMSUNG CORPORATION company in Korea.

The line includes a very special alcaline cleaning system combined with double brushing stations and high pressure systems.

The line also includes welding machine, fast removal of the squeegee rolls and brushes, automatic surface inspection systems, oil separators, a very complete triple stations recirculation and filtration system, DM water plant and fumes scrubber.

Cleaning performance has proved to be in line with the customer high expectations for their very delicate and sensitive products.
